Web Site Author(s) or Sponsor:  Linda Starr – Education World

Appropriate Grade(s) and Content Area(s):  Grades 9-12, Language Arts

SD Grade Level Standard(s):  9-12 Language Arts, Goal 1, Indicator 1, 2, 3, 4; 9-12 Language Arts, Goal 3, Indicator 1, 2, 3

Primary Use:  Classroom Teaching Resource

Description:  Ten terrific classroom activities that use the newspaper to teach all sorts of valuable skills, including reading and writing for meaning, map reading, media literacy, sequencing, word meaning, and math.

Brief Comments:  This site will give teacher many different topics to teach during a unit on newspapers.  One nice thing is that you could adapt these lessons to all grade levels.  One down fall is that it does not teach the different parts of the newspaper.  You will have to make your own lesson if you wish to teach the terminology of the newspaper.
